Before you choose
Yamaha Silent, Kawai Anytime or certain new models fitted at the factory are good solutions when buying an instrument. The adsilent retrofit is worthwhile when the piano already exists, when it is musically pleasing and when its action can be regulated properly.
An upright piano is usually fitted in a day. A grand piano takes more time, because the stop bar, the let-off and the pedals must be adjusted with greater precision. That is also where the LES option can make the difference.
The sensors and the module are not enough. Key dip, key height, capstan clearance, let-off and final tuning determine whether the piano stays pleasant to play both acoustically and with headphones.
The principle
Engaged by a small lever mounted under the keyboard, it intercepts the hammers a few millimetres before the strings. The gesture stays acoustic, only the strike is neutralised.
A discreet rail, under the keyboard, reads the travel and speed of each key. Three sensors read the pedals. Precision enough for a trill, a staccato, a half-pedal.
A box under the piano delivers the sound to your headphones. Several concert pianos, metronome, recorder, USB-C, MIDI Bluetooth, smartphone app.
The system
On the instrument side, the module and the stop bar integrate almost invisibly under your piano.
On the control side, the adsilent app — free on iOS and Android — gives access to all the sounds, the metronome, the recorder and the settings from your smartphone.
Our package
Our package systematically includes action regulation and final tuning with the installation — equivalent to €300 to €450 of services included at no extra cost. Your piano leaves calibrated, tuned, ready to play in acoustic mode as well as in silent mode.
First, fundamental step: we adjust the alignment between the capstans (screwed onto the back of each key) and the whippens, with no pressure and no lost motion. This is the base on which all the other keyboard adjustments will rest.
Levelling the keyboard so that all 88 keys are at the same height at rest. On a piano fitted with a silent system, this uniformity is essential: the optical sensor rail reads the travel of each key from its resting position, and any difference in height shifts the triggering of the digital sound.
We even out the downward travel of the keys across the whole keyboard. The optical sensors measure this same travel to drive the sound dynamics: without an even key dip, the volume of the digital sound varies from one note to another.
The let-off is raised slightly to make room for the silent stop bar. On a well-fitted upright piano, the difference is barely perceptible when playing. On grand pianos it is felt more: that is why we recommend the LES let-off bar option, which preserves the original let-off in acoustic mode.
Calibrating the soft pedal so that it engages the silent stop bar at the right moment, and the sustain pedal so that its optical sensors faithfully reproduce partial depressions — the half-pedal in silent mode as in acoustic mode.
None of the operations above touch the strings or their tension: regulation does not put the instrument out of tune. The final tuning is therefore not technically necessary — we offer it at the end of the work, as a finishing touch.

No. No original part is altered and the system can be removed at any time, with no structural damage to the action or the soundboard. The fixing requires a few discreet screw points on the frame, which remain visible after any removal but do not affect the playability or the value of the instrument. We always choose the least exposed locations and, on prestige pianos, we discuss this with you before drilling.
Adsilent can be installed on the vast majority of modern upright and grand pianos, new or second-hand. We regularly fit Steinway, Bechstein, Steingraeber, Yamaha, Kawai, Schimmel, Bösendorfer and many others. For old or unusual instruments, we offer a free prior assessment to confirm feasibility before any quote.
No, in the vast majority of cases. The action adjustments required for the silent system to work properly — capstan clearance, key height, key dip, let-off, pedals — as well as the final tuning are part of our package: we bring your action back into shape during the installation, then tune the piano once the stop bar is in place.
The adsilent system comes with a one-year manufacturer warranty on all electronic and mechanical components. Our installation work is guaranteed for the lifetime of the system: any defect attributable to the installation is put right at no charge. Aftercare is provided within 48 hours in Lyon and its metropolitan area.
Yes. The adsilent 2 app is available free of charge on the App Store and the Play Store. It controls the module via Bluetooth: changing the sound, metronome, recording, sharing MIDI files. During commissioning, we take the time to install it with you and check the connection on your devices.
We have been working with adsilent for nearly nine years. Yes in the vast majority of cases. The condition is that the action be sound — rails, hammers, dampers and keyboard in good condition. On old pianos (Pleyel, Erard, early-twentieth-century Bechstein, for example), we carry out a prior assessment at your home to check the geometry of the action and the thickness of the frame before confirming feasibility. If prior mechanical refurbishment is needed, it is quoted separately.
Hardly at all. When silent mode is on, the stop bar intercepts the hammers a few millimetres before the strings: there is no more acoustic sound, only the very muted mechanical noise of the keys and hammers stopping — comparable to the noise of a computer keyboard. This is largely compatible with a flat in a shared building, even at night.

The adsilent electronics are designed to last more than fifteen years in normal domestic use. The optical sensors have no mechanical contact with the keys, so there is no wear over time: this is one of the system’s strengths compared with contact-based silent systems. The electronic components can be replaced individually if necessary — Andreas Dütz keeps spare parts available over the long term. We remain your point of contact for any future aftercare.
